ART IS BLOOD
Online Release
23/10/2020
Shifts and changes seem to be the running theme in I Am David Sparkle’s latest album, Art Is Blood. From the addition of Adel Rashid to its roster, to a shift towards a more abrasive sound, this album marks another landmark in the band’s journey.
The band has always been fans of the heavier music genres, so it was a long time coming in having these influences lace their thoughts and ideas. While these songs have been included in the band’s ‘live’ repertoire over the years, the album as a whole was only launched in 2019 in limited quantity, 3 years after its recording. This was on top of the 2.5 to 3 years spent getting it on record.
While the quintet’s previous releases came with relatively much ease, the period in the process of releasing Art Is Blood came with a unique set of challenges. From logistical set-ups in having members uprooted for work and study, to priority shifts in the band’s individual lives, space was required for recalibration. It was at a point where time and effort outside the band were needed to navigate through the complexities that come in life.
This latest release of Art Is Blood online in 2020 marks a triumphant stamp for the band, not just in the shift of musical perspectives, but also as a documentation of renewal. It is a celebration of a group of friends rallying and finding each other again. As this decade starts in chaos, this unit begins to find its order again. Art, indeed, is blood.
